As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science, the Innogen Institute hosted a free public event to explore the many types of seaweed and its uses. A video produced by Ladislav Piljar captures some of the highlights.
In collaboration with botanist Dr Greg Kenicer from the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh and marine ecologist Dr Clare Scanlan, over 20 attendees of all ages learnt about the seaweeds in Wardie Bay and made some art with seaweed at Granton hub. The day was closed with a seaweed tasting event in which Innogen co-Director, Dr Niki Vermeulen gave a short presentation on her work into seaweed R&D in Scotland and attendees were able to sample some food and drinks made with seaweed provided by Good Brothers Trading company. Arnie Sathiy from Mara Seaweed also gave a short talk on the benefits of using seaweed seasoning over salt.
